Outdoor Survival Skills for grades 2-3
Nature benefits us all, providing everything we need to survive. But do YOU have what it takes survive in the wilderness? Join us for two days of exploration in the wilds of Quarry Hill Park where we will learn fun ways to use bits of nature to help us. We will search for animal tracks, use wild plants to make rope and shelter, and share stories around a fire as we sip tea made from trees... all with the goal of helping us become more confident in the outdoors. The skills we build will help us learn how to survive with nature, not against it!
Hidden Treasures: Geocaching for grades 4-5
Geo-caching is the high-tech version of Hide and Seek. All around the world, people hide ‘geo-caches’ (think treasure chests without gold or pirates) so other people can use their GPS device to find them. We will learn how to use a hand-held GPS to find the geo-caches hidden in and around Quarry Hill Park. Campers should expect to hike 1+ mile per day and be prepared for off-trail travel, such as walking through tall grasses or thick shrubs.
