Migration Madness

Early September is such an exciting time of the year as nature plays out its annual migration madness. While birds are probably our best known migrators they are not the only flighted friends who take to the skies and head south. Monarch butterflies are also embarking on their miraculous migration.

Join Quarry Hill naturalists as we learn more about the fall migration of both birds and monarchs and what are their migration motivators. Participate in real citizen science as we catch, tag and release birds moving through the park and nature willing release a tagged monarch bound for Mexico.  

Each program is limited to 20 participants and takes place outdoors. Masks are required for the duration of the program.

Program is offered:
Tuesday Sept. 15, 6 – 7pm
Wednesday Sept. 16, 4 – 5 pm
Thursday Sept. 17, 6 – 7pm
Friday Sept. 18,  4 – 5pm 

Program Guidelines & COVID-19 safety:

  • Program takes place entirely outdoors at the benches on the east side of the building – dress for the weather
  • In the event of inclement weather, the program will be cancelled. Participants will be contacted by phone at least one hour before program start. 
  • In the event Quarry Hill cancels due to weather, participants will be given the option of moving to another available Monarch Migration program or refunded. 
  • Registration and payment is required in advance. No walk-ins will be accepted. 
  • Masks are required for the duration of the program.
  • Participants are asked to remain at home if showing any symptoms of COVID - 19, including a fever of greater than 100.4. 
  • Health screening questions will be conducted when arriving to the program site. 
  • Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
