MN Native Animals

The Exploration Hall is home to 35 species of live Minnesota-native animals, an 1800 gallon aquarium that is home for common fish found locally, an American Kestrel and an Eastern Screech Owl. These animal ambassadors are on display daily and frequently a part of  education programs. Our live animals allow visitors to get up close and to learn  about the wildlife that can be found in SE Minnesota.

INDOOR OBSERVATION HONEYBEE HIVE

For more than 20 years, Quarry Hill has kept an indoor observation honeybee hive. Visitors can see  the internal operations of a real working honeybee colony. Throughout the year, visitors can observe the queen laying eggs, the pollen harvest and the drone's demise when winter is approaching.

BIRD observation room

Take a seat , watch and listen to Minnesota-native and migratory birds enjoying a bath in the stream or a meal at the buffet of seeds, suet & sweets replenished daily. Look closely and you may notice small silver bands on some bird's legs. These birds have likely been captured, banded and released right here at Quarry Hill as part of our education and research programs.
