Programs and Events for Families

We have a wide range of classes available to families of all ages. Pre-registration is recommended for all classes, unless noted, to ensure placement. Classes are offered in the evenings and on weekends. To sign up for classes, call Quarry Hill (328-3950) or register by printing and mailing the registration form. Registration may be done with cash, check, or credit card. Friends members discount, when available, is listed with the class write-ups.


Camp Grand

Camp Grand: Critter Camp

This camp is designed for grandparents of children ages 4-8 who have always wanted to relive their younger years and go to camp! Of course the added bonus is that they get to spend some quality time with the special grandkids in their life! The day will introduce grandparents and grandkids to all the best of Quarry Hill! They will have the chance to see live animals, take short hikes, collect animals in the field or pond, cook lunch over an open fire, make a keepsake craft and just plain have fun exploring nature!

  • A 1-day offering for Grandparents and children ages 4-8
  • We prefer a one to one ratio (See full ratio explanation below)
  • DATES: Monday August 19 or Friday, August 23
  • Cost per pair $45/$35 for Friends Members; extra child $20; extra grandparent $10
  • Camp runs 9am to 2pm

Camp Grand: Wet & Wild!

Join us for a “Wet & Wild” adventure! This camp is designed for grandparents of children ages
6-10 to spend some quality time exploring nature with the special grandkids in their life! Kids and grandparents will explore the pond and stream. During camp we’ll head out to the pond to go fishing, we’ll also have a chance to net critters in the pond or stream. In the afternoon we’ll test out our knowledge of pond animals on the Survival Game trails. Later we’ll relax inside and have a memorable show & tell with some of our live scaly & slimy animals. For lunch we’ll cook over an open fire and at the end of the day take a keepsake photo to remember the day!

Camp Grand: Flying High Adventure!

Join us for a “Flying High” adventure!  This camp is designed for grandparents of children ages 6-10 to spend some quality time exploring nature with the special grandkids in their life! At “Grandparent’s Flying High Adventure” kids and grandparents will explore our flying friends here in the park. During class we’ll head out with binoculars to see what birds are here in the park, we’ll also have a chance to net and trap birds to be banded and released. In the afternoon we’ll test out our bird instincts on the Survival Game trails. Later we’ll relax inside and have a chance to meet a real live owl and falcon and learn more about these fascinating birds of prey. For lunch we’ll cook over an open fire and at the end of the day take a keepsake photo to remember the day!

Camp Grand ratios—
For any student age 6 and younger we require a one adult to one child ratio.
For any student ages 7 and up, we prefer a one to one ratio, but will allow a one adult per two children so long as both children are 7 or older and it is no more than 2 children.

Sundays at Quarry Hill

Programs for adults, families, etc., are offered on most Sundays. All programs start at 1:30 pm and last approximately one hour. Due to space limitations, pre-registration is recommended, especially for the cave tours.

Bird Sundays*
The first sunday is reserved for birds! We will talk about our bird related topic of the month and activities will typically include trapping, netting, banding, and releasing of birds.
Cave Sundays*
Find out about the history of Quarry Hill Park with a tour of our man-made sandstone caves. The cave is a short 10 minute walk from the Nature Center. There will be an optional hike after the cave tour to a featured site. Pre-registration is strongly recommended for cave tours.
Critter Sundays*
Our focus will be on one or more of Quarry Hill's resident live animals. Learn what makes them special and if they are hungary, possibly watch them eat.
Nature Sundays*
Join us as we explore an outdoor nature topic that will include a hike or activity.
